Firstly, thank you for being here!
If you’re here from our socials, you probably don’t need to read this, but if you’ve ventured here and have no idea who we are…
Hi! I’m Taylor and I run this blog along with our social media accounts that are all primarily focused on pet nutrition. Specifically for cats and dogs. My passion for nutrition stemmed from working at a pet store that focused on a more holistic approach and believed in feeding biologically appropriate diets. Before working at this shop, I never really put much thought into what I was feeding my pets, but over the first few months at this job that changed dramatically. I took part in every seminar that was offered and ended up getting certified in pet nutrition. At first I was only substituting about a third of Holly’s food for things like raw meats, eggs, freeze dried items, etc… and it only took a few weeks of implementing minor changes for me to tell a difference.
At the time Holly was around 7 and she had skin issues, horrible allergies, arthritis and she was overweight, but within a few weeks of changing her to a better quality food and adding in some more fresh options, her overall health and well being started to improve. Her energy increased, her fur got softer and more shiny and she was actually excited to eat. Over time her hips and joints stopped causing her pain and she was able to lose those extra pounds. This change inspired me to learn as much as I could about nutrition and over the years I’ve come to the conclusion that the best preventative medicine is nutrition.
Our pets are resilient and can certainly survive on the cheap grocery store kibbles, but if you want them to thrive, the best thing you can do is feed them a biologically appropriate diet. Like every other living being on the planet, cats and dogs have a diet their body is designed to consume and the creation of “pet food” was purely made out of our convenience along with the want to monetize a previously unexplored market. Not with our pets nutritional needs in mind.
Once I realized the impact a proper diet could have, everything changed. I stopped looking at products made for our pets in the way they were being advertised to me and started solely looking at the ingredients to figure out if the product was actually beneficial. I learned about the regulations, or more so the lack there of, that go into labels on pet food and how to break down an ingredient label in a way that I could understand how much of the food was actually biologically appropriate and what was just filler nonsense. So much of pet food and pet products is just deceptive advertising to pull on our emotions. It’s pretty colors, and pictures paired with meaningless buzzwords in hopes that their product stands out on a shelf with dozens of the same thing. None of that matters, all that matters is the ingredients.
Today Holly is nearly 13 and her kitty sister Milkshake is almost 10 and I never stopped learning. They are both healthier now than they were many years ago and much younger and this is solely attributed to the improvements on their diet over the years. My social media presence wasn't something that I ever expected, but it's something I am eternally grateful for. I love that I get to talk about the subjects I'm so passionate about, and to get to share my experiences and the things that have worked for my pets. Over the last 12+ years of owning pets we've been through a lot, and we've learned a lot. As you read through this blog, you'll learn a lot about our own personal experiences and the things that did and didn't work for us through those times. I say this in those posts as well, but the things that worked for us might not work for you, but they might, or they might at least give you an idea of where to start or other ideas you may not have thought of. One of the most significant realizations I've come to is the things a good diet can change is almost unbelievable, and I love being able to share that with all of you.
I created this blog because as much as I love social media, I haven't quite mastered long-form content, and to be honest I much prefer to write than to edit videos. I also know that social media isn't forever, and I wanted space that I can talk about whatever I want for as long as I want and not be capped on time or character limit. I don't have a set schedule, and I just write about whatever I feel like writing about when I feel like writing about it, but if you have requests or things you would like me to write about, definitely let me know and I'll add it to my list! After all, I wanted this blog to be a reference point where I can go more in-depth about things that I often talk about on our social media, but might have a difficult time fully explaining.
Anyway I've been babbling on for what feels like 10 years, I hope you enjoy the blog and I've organized things in a way that makes sense to me. “The Blog” is for more broad topics, “Deep Dives” is for more specific or singular items, and then there's “The Shop” where I sell merch which probably doesn't matter to you unless you follow us on social media, but I am (very biasedly) proud of the artwork that you'll find there and I tested every item myself to make sure everything is great quality.
Thanks again for being here, I hope you enjoy.
